Positive Women United: A Queens Nonprofit Takes Center Court at Barclays

Share your love

The award-winning organization, recognized by the Queens Borough President with its own proclamation day, has been named Nonprofit of the Game for the NY Liberty’s August 27 matchup at Barclays Center.

Some organizations measure their work in programs and budgets. Positive Women United measures it in the women and families it helps move forward. Founded in 2013, the award-winning 501(c)(3) nonprofit has built its reputation on showing up for women and young girls who too often fall through the gaps in the systems meant to support them — and this summer, the WNBA is taking notice.

Positive Women United has been named the “Nonprofit of the Game” for the New York Liberty’s home matchup against the Golden State Valkyries on August 27, 2026, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The designation is a significant platform for an organization that has spent more than a decade doing quiet, consistent work in communities across New York City.

A mission built on inspiration and advocacy

PWU is dedicated to inspiring, mentoring, and advocating for girls and women of all ages, races, cultures, and ethnicities. Its programs include workshops, mentorship initiatives, and job training designed to increase self-esteem and overall well-being. The work is hands-on, community-rooted, and built around the belief that investing in a woman’s confidence and skills pays dividends for her entire family and neighborhood.

That commitment has not gone unrecognized. Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. issued a proclamation establishing “Positive Women United Day,” and the organization and its founder have received additional recognition from the NYS Assembly, among other honors.

Taking the court for a cause

The NY Liberty Nonprofit of the Game designation on August 27 gives PWU a rare opportunity to raise both visibility and funds. Fundraiser tickets for the Liberty vs. Golden State Valkyries game are available now through PWU’s dedicated group link, with proceeds supporting the organization’s programs and services.

It’s a chance to catch one of the WNBA’s marquee franchises at Barclays while directly supporting women and girls in Queens and across the city.
