Strong Women

Throughout the calendar year, several months are set aside to specifically recognize the accomplishments of those who have forged a path forward within their respective cultures. This month we pause to celebrate Women’s Heritage Month, also known as Women’s History Month. Since 1987 this month has served to highlight generations of women whose commitment to our society has been invaluable.

This year marks the return of our St. Patrick’s Day Annual Luncheon. Ironically, it was the final in-person event hosted by the Chamber before the spread of the COVID-19 virus in March 2020. We’re going to be back at Terrace on the Park in Flushing on March 16 to celebrate the Celtic tradition with you.

Speaking of strong women, Keechant L. Sewell will be one of the honorees at this year’s event. She just so happens to be a Queens native and a 25-year police veteran who was recently tapped to serve as Commissioner of the New York Police Department. James Whelan, the president of REBYN will also be honored during our luncheon. Don’t miss your opportunity to join the celebration and recognize these outstanding individuals.

Our Manufacturing Committee will also celebrate Women’s History month with their webinar “Women Manufacturers, Their Burdens During the Ongoing Pandemic”. This dynamic panel will include two female Chamber members who happen to be manufacturers.

CEO of Plaques by Azra, Azra Khalfan-Kermali, Vice President at Electropolishing Corporation, Lina De La Cruz, and Kelsy Zimba, the owner of Zimba Collections, will round out the panel and Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz will moderate this outstanding woman-driven presentation.

These events simply scratch the surface of what we have scheduled throughout the month. From Womentoring Day to a community job fair in Woodhaven, we’re committed to continuing to meet the needs of the business community in Queens.

Everyone contributes to the wonderfully diverse county we call home, however, strong women are critical to the forward movement of the business community.

It’s with great pleasure that the Queens Chamber is able to celebrate their contributions and efforts.

I count it an absolute blessing to serve as President of this amazing organization. Thanks to each and every one of you for your overwhelming support.

Queens STRONG!
