Queens College professor embarks on journey to lost continent

Queens College Professor Stephen Pekar, a professor of earth and environmental science and resident of Forest Hills, will embark next month on a two-month-long international voyage to explore not Atlantis, but a real-life lost continent. Called Zealandia because of its location off New Zealand, this huge sunken land mass is considered “the eighth continent.” The 30 scientists from a dozen nations who will be on board hope to find clues to our current global warming. Pekar, who grew up in the Rockawayss, has traveled to Antarctica four times and visited 50 countries.
